The Bronx:Growing musically and in size

Los Angeles punk rockers the Bronx have announced that after a year of touring they are returning to the studio to record not one but two (that's right TWO!) new albums to be released later this year.

Each album will contain 11 tracks but will be vastly different from each other. The first LP will consist entirely of mariachi songs, while the second album, to be recorded next month, will see the band record another set of eleven songs in their more familiar and much loved brand of explosive modern hardcore punk.

The Bronx also revealed that Vincent Hidalgo from the Drips and Brad Maggers from That 70s Show have been added to the band's line up.

Personally I'm not sure what to make of this forthcoming mariachi album. They haven't really shown in interest in the genre in their earlier material, so really we're all going in blind. It'll be interesting to hear at the very least and the band seems genuinely excited about it, so that's always positive. Anyway, even if it sucks it won't matter too much since a new LP chock full of patented Bronx punk will be released at the same time. For now though, the Bronx haven't gone wrong in my book, so I'm williing to see what they can do outside of punk rock as long as they don't forget what the punters want most.

Continuing with the glass half full approach; since the Bronx are now in the studio and will probably be there for the next few months, it's a good bet that they'll be returning to Australia within the next 12 months once the new albums hit the shelves. The Bronx have quite a significant cult fanbase Down Under ever since they toured back in '03 and you can bet that Australia will be one of their first stops once they load up the touring van. And as someone who witnessed their set last year at the HifFi Bar, let me tell you they're an act you cannot afford to miss if you consider yourself to be any kind of punk rock fan. It's worth going just to see the incredible antics of lead singer Matt Coughtran

I love the Bronx. Seriously in my Top 10 bands of all time. I'm a big fan of hardcore in general but these guys are probably the best I know. Even over bands such as Atreyu or Bullet for my Valentine I would go the Bronx, and I'm even looking forward to El Bronx in mariachi style (I actually went to Mexico recently so I'm fairly keen for the style.)

But seriously the Bronx II is one of my favourite albums of all time, and I enjoy music from many eras so I'd like to say that means a lot. Definately a band for anyone keen on the genre even a little

I definitely think they'll be taking it seriously, though having said that, they'll also make sure they have fun doing it. It is the Bronx after all.
