Hey Ho rock voyagers,
Regular viewers of this page will be aware of my fondness for chicks who play rock'n'roll. Imagine how excited I am today after watching a couple of videos of The Runaways.
"Who are the Runaways?", I hear some musical nerd whimper from the back row. Well, you pathetic pomperoneous peckerhead! The Runaways were the first all-girl rock band. I'm talking heavy, kick-arse, heart-thumping, bone crushing rock and or roll. They formed back in 1975 and released about four albums between '76 and '79. Due to the fact that they were only 15, they were pinned with the nickname 'Jailbait Rockers'. The main line-up was:Cherie Currie - Vocals, Joan Jett - Guitar & Vocals, Lita Ford - Guitar & Vocals, Jackie Fox - Bass, *RIP* Sandy West - Drums, Vocals. Not only could they rock out, but they were babes. These chicks forged the way not only for sisters of rock, but also pop and R&B. They did it all before Madonna and Pink and they did it better. One of the vids below is The Runaways performing their monster hit, 'Cherry Bomb'. From this 2 mins 23 secs you will: 1.Be entertained, 2. See real rock chicks, 3. Have to take a cold shower.
