Twas On This Day In Musical History:
1922 - Jeanette Vreeland sang the first radio concert from an airplane as she flew over New York City. Fortunately for the audience listening on the ground, it was to be the last radio concert from an airplane, due to the fact that nothing was audible except the sound of the plane’s engine buzzing wildly over the top.
1958 - Van Cliburn won the International Tchaikovsky piano competition.
1958 - Van Cliburn appeared on national TV for the first time. He was on NBC's 'The Tonight Show' with Jack Paar. It was discovered that the talented musician was also the world’s first clone, as he was appearing in two places at the same time.
1963 - The Beatles met the Rolling Stones after a Stones concert and got stoned.
1965 - Millie Small appeared on ABC-TV's ‘Shindig!’ and performed her song ‘My Boy Lollipop’. If Millie was 20 years old & performing her song today, the connotations and the choreography for the song would be a whole lot different. Fnark fnark.
1976 - Motown Records and Stevie Wonder held a news conference to announce he had signed a '$13 million-plus' contract with the label. Two days later, Stevie’s Lawer held a conference with Motown Records to negotiate another contract. It was alleged that Stevie had signed the previous contract for ‘$13 thousand plus’, as he couldn’t actually see the contract he was signing.
1980 - A New Jersey State Republican candidate introduced a resolution to make Bruce Springsteen's ‘Born to Run’ the official state song. After gaining only 3% of the votes, he decided to change the song title to, ‘Born To Lose’.
1999 - It was reported that Prince intended to re-record the entire catalog of his music and re-release it. This proves what thousands had been thinking all along – that the music really sucked and now even Prince believed it.
